Hunting Camp Survival

Each year thousands of hunters want to take that ultimate hunting and camping trip out to the back country. As it can be an awesome experience and a lot of fun, it could become fatally dangerous if not prepared for it.
Not only beginners but even an experienced outdoors man should take a first aid and survival class. It could not only save you or someone else s life, but lets your love ones and friends know that you are knowledgeable enough to take a wilderness trip and give them some piece of mind.
Knowing how to check someones consciousness, heartbeat, pulse and giving CPR should be a must. One important thing to remember is not to panic in a desperate situation. When you panic you don't think as well. You want to be able to act in a critical disaster.
You should always know your location and be aware of your surroundings. Getting lost in the woods is very easy and could put you into a risky situation if not prepared. Knowing where your at,seiko watches, at all times is a major concern, and with today's technologies there are several emergency equipment locater's on the market. A hand held GPS device or a compass is very easy to operate and will do well in bringing you back to camp. Even using the sun will get you going in the right direction, especially if you have studied a map of where you were going or what location you were going to be at.
If you travel into the woods in the early morning hours, it is good to watch where the sun comes up, showing you that is east and 180 degrees of that will lead you west. If not sure where the four points of the compass is, take note where the sun is at midday. When the sun is straight over head, it is usually between 11:00 and 1:00 and the sun will be prominently to the south.
Face the sun to where your shadow is directly behind you and you will be facing south and your shadow is facing north. Standing there you can stick your left arm straight out at 90 degrees and you will be pointing east and your right arm will be pointing west.
If you are planning to walk straight into the woods about 400 or 500 yards and sit till dark, it is wise to put some Bright Eyes on the backside of the trees at eye level about every 30 yards as your walking in, so when you head back in to camp at dark, you can shine your flashlight on your Bright Eyes to find your way out. Bright Eyes are small thumb tacks with a head on it about 1/2 inch in diameter that glows in the dark when hit by flashlight. They can be bought at most sporting good stores.
Search the internet or your locale library for outdoor safety and survival and be prepared when going on a hunting camp trip. Carry a first aid and survival kit when venturing to the wild outdoors. Although there are many items I did not mention, here are a few suggested essential items that would help you get started, but keep in mind that these are only a few items.
